External Cat Parasites - Lice, Mites And Mange
External parasites live on a cats skin. They not only cause irritation, but sometimes carry other diseases. As you groom your cat, examine its coat for any evidence of parasites.
Lice are rare in cats and do not spread to humans. Serious infection usually occurs because cats are poorly nourished, neglected and live in unsanitary conditions.
Infected cats should be isolated and treated with any of a number of commercial products in the form of dips, sprays or shampoos. Be certain the label states that the product is safe for cats. Always read and follow label directions. Because lice do not live long off the host, a single thorough cleaning of the cats environment should be adequate. Discard vacuum cleaner bags and cleaning rags.
Mange is a general term for parasitic diseases caused by any of several microscopic mites. Signs of mange include excessive shedding, fur loss in patches and bald spots around the eyes, nose or ears. A veterinarian should diagnose and treat a mange infestation as soon as possible.
Cheyetialla mites produce an extensive dry, scaly dust suggestive of dandruff. Other signs include a rash and itching. An affected cat should be isolated from other pets. A dip, powder or shampoo should be used. The cats environment should also be treated. In many instances humans are also affected. Treatment by a physician is recommended. Try 100% All Natural Clenzor for cleansing, disinfecting, treating and prevention.
Ear mites are one of the most common ear problems in cats. The mites live on the surface of the skin and pierce the skins surface to feed, causing considerable inflammation and discomfort. The skin-piercing is accompanied by an accumulation of dark brown granular material composed of dried blood and wax within the ear canal.
Scratching the ears, head shaking and brown debris inside the ear are signs of ear mites. If left untreated, earmites cause serious problems such as secondary bacterial infections, torn and bleeding ear tissues resulting from excessive scratching, and, in extreme cases, loss of hearing.
Cats who spend considerable time outdoors have a greater incidence of mites than those housed inside. Young kittens can get mites from their mother.
Although mites are not transmitted to people, they can be transmitted to other household pets. For all mite infections, your veterinarian can provide diagnosis and effective treatment. For a more natural remedy try Clenzor for lice and body or fur mites.

Minor injuries and skin conditions in pets
Cuts, scrapes, bites and stings, ringworm, flea-bite dermatitis and many other similar injuries and conditions affect our feline friends. Though minor, these can cause a lot of pain and discomfort for your cat. Treating these problems quickly, effectively and naturally will save your pet from numerous side-effects, shorten healing and recovery time as well as prevent more serious complications like infection.
As any vet will tell you, one of the most important and first steps in addressing a wound, injury or skin condition in your cat is to keep it clean and the sooner that this is done following injury or trauma, the more beneficial the intervention will be. Broken or irritated skin is vulnerable to infection and contamination. By following a thorough cleansing routine before applying topical treatment like creams, you are also helping your pet to heal more quickly and preventing the need for more intensive medical care.
How do I use Clenzor?
Clenzor comes in a 50 ml topical tincture.
Directions: Using clean hands and a clean cotton wool swab, apply directly to affected area when needed. Wear gloves when treating pets exposed to poison ivy. Urushoil, the active ingredient in poison ivy, is very potent and remains on your pet's skin and coat long after exposure.
Clenzor may be used together with Wound Dr, Ring-Ex, or FleaDerm.
Caution: For external use only. Please consult your veterinarian should symptoms persist. If any swelling of the mouth, tongue or eyes - or any breathing difficulties - are noticed after exposure to poison ivy or insect bites, please seek urgent medical attention for your pet.

Ear structure and function:
Ear structure in dogs and cats can be divided into three main areas – the external ear, the middle ear (behind the eardrum), and the internal or inner ear. There are two main functions of the ear – hearing and balance. While the inner ear is responsible for both hearing and balance, the middle and external ear structures perform the task of collecting sound and conducting it to where it can be interpreted by the nervous system.
While the basic structure and functions of the ears of dogs and cats are similar to humans, dogs in particular differ in the shapes of their outer ear. While some dogs have pointed upright ears, others (like Spaniels) have long, pendulous ears which can predispose them to ear problems.
Another interesting difference between human ears and the ears of dogs and cats is that in humans, ear infections usually originate from within. This is called an ascending infection and moves from the pharynx (throat) to the Eustachian tube and then into the middle ear. However, in dogs and cats, infection usually occurs in the external ear canal first and may then move into the middle ear.
This interesting fact highlights the importance of keeping ears healthy, clean and free of ear mites (to prevent scratching and irritation). Your pet’s ears also contain certain amounts of wax as well as a variety of flora (e.g. yeast and certain bacteria). This is healthy and helps to keep ears clean and free of infection – i.e., part of the ear’s immune response to invading organisms and debris. Maintaining the natural balance of normal flora and healthy organisms in the ear is therefore important, and it is only when a weakened immune system causes over proliferation of the inner flora of the ear that problems arise.
Look out for shaking of the head and ears, scratching and rubbing, a foul smell from the ear or even discharge-- and consult your vet if you are concerned.
Holistic Help for Cat and Dog Ear Health:
As can be seen from the above, maintaining balance and harmony in the ear and keeping the outer ear clean is very important in helping to keep pets’ ears problem-free. There is much that can be done to prevent problems.
Because the ears are essentially part of the skin, ear health starts with general skin health. This means a healthy diet, avoidance of allergens, and keeping pets free from mites, fleas and other skin parasites.
By adopting a holistic approach to your pet’s health and examining all factors that influence your pet’s well-being, a happy, healthy pet will result.
Today’s rushed, over-processed lifestyle puts strain on our pet’s immune systems and predisposes them to developing allergies and succumbing to infections. By feeding a diet free of colorants and preservatives and one that approximates the diet that they would eat in the wild you are less likely to have a pet that suffers from dietary intolerances or skin problems.
Add Skin and Coat Tonic to your pet’s ear treatment program for optimal healing. A glossy coat will be an added benefit.
Natural remedies (such as our Ear Dr. drops) applied within the ear as ear drops can also help to restore ear balance and health.
A last note: Do not be tempted to stick ear buds or anything similar in your pet’s ears, you will only do damage!
Ear mites & ear infections are very common among cats and dogs and can cause severe irritation and discomfort.
Signs of ear mites or ear infection in dogs and cats are:
Shaking of the head and ears
Scratching or rubbing the ears and face
Discharge or even bleeding from the ears
Foul smell coming from the ears
Sensitivity to touching in the ear area
General irritability
There are a number of causes of ear infection and common culprits include bacteria, yeasts and ear mites. Less commonly, allergies may have a role to play in inflammation and subsequent infection of the ears.
What are ear mites?
Ear mites, or Otodectes cynotis, are small, parasitic creatures that usually live in the ears of your pets causing severe itching and inflammation. These ear mites can also live on the head or body of dogs and cats - with the same effects. They are often large enough to see with the naked eye, can live off a pet’s skin for some time and are very mobile - allowing easy movement between host animals. These ear mites are highly contagious and will spread between pets in the same household very easily. They may affect both cats and dogs and even humans may pick up these little critters.
Secondary infections in dogs, puppies, cats and kittens with ear mites are common and generally involve bacteria or yeasts.
What is the conventional treatment?
Usual treatment of feline or canine ear infections involves antibiotics and, in the case of ear mites, ear mite medication and products also used for flea control. In severe ear mite infestations and multiple pet households, insecticides are sometimes used for treating the house or living environment.
Can Herbal Ear Mite Remedy Help?
As ear infections are so often treated with antibiotics, chronic and recurrent ear infections are a growing problem and usually occur with decreased immune functioning - a frequent side-effect of antibiotic drugs.
Natural ear mite remedies can treat and prevent infections of the ear without any of the side-effects and adverse effects on immune functioning that antibiotics do.
